What Makes Big Daddy Pizza Different?
Big Daddy Pizza is a newly established pizzeria in Herndon, VA that wants to reach out and make its mark in the community. It's a restaurant that uses only fresh and organic ingredients, and that's what makes it stand out from other restaurants in town.
In this day and age of GMOs, and so many people against the use of synthetic chemicals in foods, Kash, the owner, has put forth a mission statement to provide great customer service and high quality, organic foods to the local area.
What does that mean? For starters, Big Daddy Pizza uses unbleached and unbromated flour.
Bleached flour is flour that has been mixed with chemicals to make it white. In today's society we bleach our flour because flour naturally has a yellowish tint to it, and doesn't look very appealing. In the past we used to bleach flour naturally with time and air. However, being that time is money, we have in recent decades resorted to using chemicals to bleach it. (The Little-Known Secrets about Bleached Flour - Mercola.com)
There are many problems with bleaching flour. First is that it creates alloxen, a known carcinogen. Now those of you who are against animal testing in labs may not want to read this, but unfortunately those cute little lab rats are given alloxen in order to create diabetes in them so that they can study the effects of diabetes drugs. Basically, Alloxen causes diabetes!
Second, bleaching flour with chemicals strips away all the nutrients of the flour: all of the fiber in the bran layer is stripped; all of the nutrients in the germ layer is stripped, and all your are left with is the endosperm layer, which leaves only a small amount of the original nutrients... but then even THAT has been stripped away when the flour is bleached! So bleached flour has absolutely no nutrients at all!
Bromated flour is flour that has been treated with potassium bromate. This is done to give the dough elasticity and to help it rise higher. You might be interested to know that potassium bromate is a potential carcinogen that has been completely outlawed in the UK. In the United States however, it has not, though some states require that bromated flour be disclosed on food labels. (What is unbleached flour - Philadelphia Burtition | Examiner)

Why Should We Eat Organic Food?

So first of all, what is organic food? Organic Food is food that has been grown using only natural means. That means no Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs.
What are GMOs? They are plants or animals whose DNA has been altered in some way by scientists.
The intention may be good, but these products have undergone only short-term testing to determine their effects on the human body.
We don't know what the long-term effects of GMOs are, and what we do know about it the short-term effects is alarming. For example, we know that exposure to pesticides at a young age can cause developmental delays, behavioral functions, and motor dysfunction (source: Organic Foods: Understanding Organic Food...).
We also know that organic foods are better for the environment. Exposure to synthetic pesticides can make it harder for creatures to reproduce or even kill them. Organic farming practices are not to use pesticides, but rather to use natural methods such as good insects, birds, and traps.
For these reasons more and more people are choosing not to allow themselves be the guinea pigs of GMO companies like Monsanto. People are starting to look to restaurants who use 100% organic ingredients. Restaurants like Big Daddy Pizza in Herndon, VA are doing just that - serving yummy pizzas, subs and wings, using 100% organic ingredients. Every sauce, every chicken wing, every pepperoni, even the dough, is organic.
